Take A Moment And Be Still
There is something magical that happens after snow gently falls to the earth. It is a total silence, pristine, and pure. When we lived in the Sierra’s I remember the sound of frozen crystals crunching under my boots and the way the cold frosty air felt in my lungs.
When snow blankets the trees and landscape, it is an indescribable calm that seems to slow time itself. Time to ponder. Praise. Breathe.
The clean layer covers the clutter of pine needles, branches, and dirt. Everything looks fresh, at least for a while. We need the same experience. Time to stop, listen, and just be still.
The last few years have left me feeling like I can barely catch my breath. I have found myself living reactive verses proactive. Exhausted verses refreshed. So, I decided to do something crazy. I cancelled several activities in January and took time to finish projects I had already committed to, without adding new ones. I didn’t blog. I baked fewer Christmas Cookies. I didn’t worry about what didn’t get done. I called the month Jan-NO-ary.
Now that February is here I am ready to move forward, focused and refreshed.
What about you?
Have you ever taken a “time-out”? Maybe it is time to stroll along the freshly powdered path, soak in the quiet and breathe. The “To-Do” list, and activity filled calendar will be there when you get back, but there is something about giving ourselves permission to take a few things off our plates that is rewarding.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surge… Be still, and know that I am God,” Psalm 46 1-3, 10
