There is something whimsical and nostalgic about snowmen!
When we lived in the Sierra Mountains the first snow was usually celebrated by having a pajama day, followed by plenty of hot cocoa, and running barefoot around the lawn just to see if you could endure the cold for one lap around the house…something invented by our boys. Go figure.
We would make big snowmen every year, complete with a carrot nose, stocking cap, and scarf. Stick hands protruded out each side of the usually lopsided body, but for all we cared, our snowperson was incredible.
Ater we moved to Southern California, I realized how much I missed the changing seasons. Instead of scarves and warm mittens, we are often in flip-flops and short sleeves. Salads are eaten much more soup and the smell of a wood burning fireplace is something almost forgotten. It is nice not to have to worry about putting chains on your tires, but being in a wintery wonderland had benefits that left you softly singing, “There must have been some magic in that old silk hat they found..Frosty the snowman..”
Well, you can make your own snowman, no matter where you live! With just a few socks, a bunch of rice, some craft clay, pins, buttons, and string, the possibilities are endless!
So get creative! Do you wanna build a snowman?
